MySuperChoices is an independent website that compares Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs) against Australian industry and retail super funds. We publish no-ads, no-commission comparisons, calculators, and guides so that Australians can weigh up their retirement options using the same primary data that financial professionals use.

We Are Not a Financial Adviser

MySuperChoices does not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) and does not provide personal financial advice. Every calculator, comparison, and article on this site is general information only — it does not take into account your personal circumstances. Always consult a licensed financial adviser before making superannuation decisions.

Why We Built This

Most super comparison content online is written by a party with something to sell — a fund trying to win your rollover, an SMSF administrator trying to win your setup fee, or a comparison site earning a referral commission on the outcome it recommends. That creates an obvious incentive problem: the "best" answer for the publisher isn't always the best answer for you.

MySuperChoices doesn't run ads, doesn't take referral commissions, and doesn't have a product to sell. We built the cost calculator, the 20-year projection tool, and every article on this site to answer one question as honestly as the public data allows: at your balance, your goals, and your risk tolerance, which structure actually serves you better?

How We Research and Write

Every figure on this site — contribution caps, fund fees, SMSF running costs, tax thresholds, legislative dates — is sourced from primary regulatory and industry data, not secondhand summaries. Our standard sources include:

Australian Taxation Office
SMSF statistics, contribution caps, compliance rules
ASIC
Regulatory guidance, scam alerts, auditor actions
APRA
Fund-level statistics and performance data
Moneysmart (ASIC)
Consumer-facing super and SMSF guidance
Australian Treasury
Legislative changes and policy costings
Fund PDS & Annual Reports
Published fee schedules from individual super funds

Every article displays an "Updated" date in its header, and our internal review cycle checks published figures against current legislation whenever a relevant law changes — most recently the 1 July 2026 contribution cap indexation, the Division 296 tax start date, and the 10 August 2026 residential LRBA borrowing ban.

Our Methodology

Where we show comparative figures — like the cost calculator on our homepage — we use published fee schedules and PDS documents for the funds shown, and standard SMSF cost assumptions built from the mandatory ATO supervisory levy, ASIC registration fee, typical audit costs, and typical accounting fees for a straightforward two-member fund. We show these assumptions openly in the relevant tool or article rather than presenting a single number without its inputs.

Where figures involve genuine uncertainty or a range (such as SMSF running costs, which vary by fund complexity), we present a range rather than a false-precision single figure, and explain what drives the low and high ends.

Corrections and Feedback

We rely on public data that changes as legislation and fund pricing change. Every article displays an "Updated" date, and we periodically re-check published figures against current ATO, ASIC and APRA guidance. If a figure is found to be out of date or incorrect, we correct it and note the change against that date.

Who's Behind This Site

MySuperChoices is produced and maintained by an independent editorial team. Content is not written or reviewed by a licensed financial adviser and should not be treated as a substitute for one — see the disclaimer above. We publish under the MySuperChoices name rather than individual bylines because the site's positions reflect a consistent editorial and research process, not any one person's opinion.
